Thirty Young Basketball Players Looking For Scholarship

By Bernard Newbold
More than two-dozen hungry young basketball players looking for a chance at a partial scholarship hit jump shots, ran the floor and showed their defensive skills to Head Coach of Montreat College Cavaliers, Bill Robinson during a two-day camp at the DW Davis Gym March 14-15.

Robinson purpose in The Bahamas was to scout the best possible talent for his men's basketball team for the Fall 2008 semester.

Montreat College is an affiliate of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) located in Montreat North Carolina.

Coach Robinson accepted the invitation to visit The Bahama Islands from coach Cardinal Moncur who has been working with the young men through basketball in local communities.

Robinson said he saw a great amount of talent over the two days camp and is "looking forward" to a number of student-athletes from The Bahamas to attend the North Carolina school.

Robinson will head back to the U.S. to talk with specialty coaches on his team to ensure there is room for players he is interested in.

"Montreat College, which is also a Christian school, does not offer full scholarships as we only give partial and hopefully these guys would take the opportunity," explained Robinson.

Moncur was "impressed" with the level of talent the players displayed over the two days.

"During the two days we had a total of 30 student-athletes from the Government and private schools here in Nassau attending the camp and I must commend their coaches for allowing them to be apart of this opportunity."

"It is programs like these that will help impact and motivate the lives of the young men in this country and I just thank God that I can be apart of it," said Robinson.
