SHAVONDER “THE WONDER” CLARKE …Still going strong
|
Earlier this week, the 5’11" senior sports management major was selected as the Atlantic Sun Conference’s Player of the Week.
Last week Clarke exhibited superb floor leadership on the court for the Lady Owls. As her team’s leading scorer, Clarke averaged 27 points per game. For the season, Clarke is averaging 24.3 points per game while leading the Lady Owls in field goal percentage and steals. She is also leading Kennesaw State in rebounding, averaging 9.3
In the Owls’ Monday night 92-87 loss against Jacksonville State, Clarke displayed why she deserved the Conference Player of the Week honour.
She led her team with her third double double of the season‚ as she paced all scorers with 29 points and 24 rebounds.
In this particular game, Clarke went out of the game with an injury at halftime.
"I was going up for a rebound. I came down on another girls’ leg and that is when I heard a pop. It hurt a lot and I started screaming. Then all of a sudden the stadium just got quiet. When they took me in for observation they said that I had a sprain and suggested that I sit out for a week and a half.
"They told me that I could not play again unless I got an x-ray. At that point, we were down in the game. It is just a bad sprain and all I need is a little break," Clarke said.
Clarke returned to complete the game despite the diagnosed sprain.
Early last season Clarke was named the Peach Belt Conference’s Player of the week and continued her solid play. At the end of last season, she was selected to the Peach Belt Conference’s First Team.
