The masters of the game of softball in The Bahamas were eager to return to the diamond on the weekend following the Christmas/New Year’s Day Holiday break.
However, judging from the scores, the Dog House Rangers and the Joshua Knights were better prepared for action following the long break in Masters Softball Association action.
At the Churchill Tenner Knowles Stadium, the Rangers added two easy victories to their win-loss record over the weekend.
In their first game against the DHL Lions on Saturday, the Rangers scored 19 runs off 21 hits.
John Woodside was the winning pitcher for the Rangers. He gave up 11 hits in the win.
At the plate the Rangers put on a slugfest led by John Wallace and Eddie Ferguson who each went 3-for-4.
Kendal Ferguson was 3-for-5 and Eugene Higgs was 2-for-5 with two RBI.
By scoring eight runs in the first inning, the Rangers grabbed control of the game and led 12-8 going into the seventh inning when they exploded for seven runs to put the contest out of reach.
Audley Minus and Mike Isaacs led the Lions offense. Minus finished the night 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Isaacs connected for two hits and finished the game 2-for-3 with one run scored and two
RBIs.
On Sunday, the Rangers followed up their 19-point performance with a 15-2 pummeling of the Williams Construction Jets.
Just as they did against the Lions on Saturday, the Rangers leaped out to an early 4-1 lead and never looked back.
Ferguson was perfect at the plate for the Rangers, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and triple and four RBIs. John Wallace was 3-for-4 and Anton Bowe was 3-for-5 with four runs scored, two doubles and two RBIs.
Jeff Cooper got two of the Jets’ four hits. He had a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with two runs scored and a double.
In the second half of the doubleheader on Sunday, like the Rangers, the Joshua Knights also came out firing all of cylinders and they chalked up a 20-10 victory over the Two Turtles Inn Parrots.
Unlike the previous game where the winner was leading from the start, it was the Turtles who jumped out to a 3-1 first inning lead before the Knights scored seven runs off three hits in the second inning and ended
up leading 8-4.
The Parrots pulled to within two runs in the third 8-6, but in the fourth inning the Knights connected for five more hits resulting in a 10-run inning to boost their lead to 18-6 before going on to secure the win.
Bertram Murray was the winning pitcher and Lionel Clarke picked up the loss.
Lorenzo Lockhart was perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Knights and he finished the game with two runs scored, two doubles and four RBIs.
For the Parrots Frederick Saunders was also perfect at the plate. He went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs, two triples and two RBIs.
