The Dog House Rangers are the class of the Masters Softball League thus far in the season.
The Rangers are sitting pretty at the top of the league with only one loss.
The Rangers have compiled an 8-1 record and are two games ahead of the second place Joshua Knights who are 5-2.
The Rangers’ first loss came at the hands of the William Construction Jets on Saturday February 11. The final score was 15-10.
Jets pitcher Mike Dillett got off to a rocky start, and gave up six runs off five hits in the first inning before settling down. During the remainder of the game he allowed just three more runs off four hits that
came in the third inning.
Coupled with a fierce hitting attack by his batters, Dillett’s effort was enough to get the win.
Mike Major was 4-for-5 with two runs a double and three RBIs, and Jeff Cooper was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI for the Jets.
Pitcher John Woodside picked up the loss for the Rangers. They were paced at the plate by Anthony Bowe who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI. Audley Williams was 2-FOR-3 with two RBIs.
The Rangers will try to rebound from that initial loss today when they pick up the action in the fifth inning in their game against the Joshua Knights. Their next full game will be against the Royals on Sunday
February 26.
In the second half of last Saturday’s double-header, the DHL Lions trounced the Miller Panthers 19-0. Basil Davis was the wining pitcher. He gave up no hits as his team won in four innings.
James Robinson was the loser and he gave up 18 hits in the shortened game. For the Lions, Anthony Roberts and Richard Brown each went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Roberts has two home runs, scored four times, had seven RBI and a triple, while Brown had one home run, two BIs and two runs scored.
With the win the Lions improved to 2-5 and the Panthers dropped to 1-8.
