Fountain Goes Through To Final In Sg Junior Boys Tennis Open

Out of a large field, William Fountain was the only Bahamian to make it to the final four in an effort to qualify for the main draw of the Security and General International Tennis Federation’s Junior Boys Tennis Open, at the National Tennis Centre on the weekend.

In the second round of qualifying for players to get into the main draw, Fountain defeated the number two seed from the USA, Cole Conrad, 1-6, 6-4 and 6-2.

However in the final round of qualifying, William Parker (USA) defeated Fountain, 6-3 and 6-1. Parker got by Great Britain’s James Allemby in the second round of qualifying, 6-2 and 6-1.

The other five Bahamian players did not advance beyond the second round of qualifying.

Bahamian Marvin Coleby lost to third seed Jose Javier Ponce from Ecuador, 6-0 and 6-3.

Then Bahamian Javano Thompson faced the USA’s Sam Morris who won 6-2 and 7-5.

Native Ricardo Demeritte fell to the USA’s Nicholas Bacchus from the USA, 6-1 and 6-0.

Paul Aranha from The Bahamas lost to Mexico’s Jose Antonio Zarur-Nemer 6-1 and 6-1.

Bahamian, Kermit Strachan, was defeated by the USA’s Harris Radzematovic, 6-3 and 6-1.

The other three players, aside from Parker, who recorded wins in the final round of qualifying, are set to commence main draw play today. They include, Radzematovic who defeated top seed Patricio Escobar (Ecuador) 7-6(5) and 6-4; Bacchus (USA) who won over Zarur-Nemier, 6-4 and 7-6(4) and Javier Ponce who beat Morris, 6-1 and 6-0.
