Teen Charged With Murder

By Kendea Jones
A teenaged boy who surrendered to police a day earlier in Exuma was on Wednesday charged with the murder of Marvin Wilson, a high profile homicide that many had speculated was a serial killing.

The prosecution has listed 23 witnesses to give testimony in the murder case of the 17-year-old male, whose identity cannot be revealed because he is a minor.

The murder accused, a resident of Ragged Island Street in the capital, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez.

He was not required to enter a plea because the case is a capital one.

Magistrate Gomez remanded the teen to Her Majesty’s Prison, Fox Hill and adjourned to matter to September 2 in the juvenile court.

The prosecutor was Inspector Althea Porter and the defending attorney was Harvey Bannister.

Police got a major breakthrough in the Wilson murder earlier this week when the wanted teen walked into the George Town Police Station.

Wilson, was employed at a downtown restaurant when he was killed on Tuesday, June 3.

Wilson, a 32-year-old Jamaican, managed to make it out of his apartment near the Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas in Centreville after being stabbed and begged his neighbors for help.

However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

Shortly thereafter, speculation was rife about a serial killing in the gay community. Police have not confirmed this.

Wilson’s attacker reportedly fled on foot, leaving behind a trail of blood. His brutal slaying came a mere eight days after the May 26, death of AIDS activist Wellington Adderley.

Mr. Adderley’s fully clothed body was reportedly found in a pool of blood in his apartment.

An autopsy report later revealed that the AIDS activist died from multiple stab wounds, primarily to the neck area.

In addition to serving as the administrator of the AIDS foundation, 51-year-old Adderley was director of the Bahamas National Network For Positive Living.

Police are still actively investigating the 2007 murders of former College of The Bahamas dean Thaddeus McDonald and designer Harl Taylor.
