Baby Found Dead In Canal

BY VANESSA C. ROLLE
The police in Grand Bahama are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an eighteen-month-old baby boy, reported Chief Superintendent of Police Basil Rahming late Thursday afternoon.

According to the Police Press Office, the infant’s body was discovered by his mother, Theodora Dawkins of Lawrence Close Apartments, floating in a canal east of the Island Seas Resort at Silver Point shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Supt. Rahming said that on being alerted about the incident, uniformed and plain clothes officers went to the scene on Silver Point Drove where a houseboat is moored at the southern side of the canal.

He said that it was there that they met an occupant of the houseboat administering CPR to the child, who was said to have been pulled from the water a few minutes earlier.

EMS personnel arrived on the scene and transported the baby boy to the Trauma Section at the Rand Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, continued Supt. Rahming.

An autopsy is expected to be performed, in order to determine the exact cause of the child's death, he said.
