FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – Police were on Wednesday in search of two Grand Bahama men wanted in connection with the shooting death of a man in broad daylight at the Grand Bahama International Airport earlier in the day.
Dead is Cleso Rolle of Bahamia.
Terry Melvin Daxon, 27, also known as Toni Williams, Tupac, Longhead and Tony Dixon; and Gregory Thomas Bradford, 25, alias Tall Boy, Slanky, Greasy Boy, Big G and Lynch are wanted in connection with the killing.
A quiet day at the Grand Bahama International Airport was pierced by what witnesses said was a hail of gunfire that sent persons in the area scrambling for cover.
Within minutes, teams of police officers converged on the scene, cordoning off a section of roadway leading to the airport, while an All Points Bulletin was executed for a dark green car suspected of being the getaway vehicle.
Chief Superintendent of Police Basil Rahming told reporters, “Police received information at around 10:15am that a shooting had occurred at the General Aviation section of the airport.
“Officers discovered the body of a male lying down by the fence to the entrance gate of that section of the airport, with multiple gunshot wounds about the body,” he added.
Mr. Rahming said Rolle was rushed to the Rand Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 10:50 a.m.
According to Mr. Rahming, the shooter in the incident emerged from the passenger seat of the dark green car, opened fire on Rolle then got back into the car which sped off from the scene.
Police said Daxon’s last known address is #86 Drake Avenue in Freeport, and Bradford’s is #108 Acklins Place in Hawksbill.
Police also said Bradford has a scar on his right hand.
The General Aviation section of the airport is some distance from the airport’s main terminal and is typically the section where charters, private aircraft and smaller domestic carriers park and depart.
The area is bordered by perimeter fencing.
Airport officials, who spoke to investigators at the scene, declined comment to reporters on the incident.
When questioned about the adequacy of security at the airport, Mr. Rahming said, “That’s a difficult question. Some crimes occur randomly and with all the security in the world incidents still can occur.
“I feel that the airport has adequate security at this time to meet their requirements,” he added.
Police had not indicated a motive in the killing. Rolle’s murder is the island’s fourth for the year.
