Police Safety & Security Section Members Commended At Luncheon

Top officials from the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF), the Director General of Tourism, and executives from the Bahamas Hotel Association and The Nassau Tourism and Development Board attended a luncheon hosted by the RBPF to recognize and commend members of The Visibility team of the Police Tourism Safety & Security Section commissioned by Commissioner of Police, Paul Farquharson as part of The Bahamas Visitor Safety and Security Initiative spearheaded by the RBPF and The Ministry of Tourism in the latter part of 2005.

The Bahamas Visitor Safety & Security Board is in the process of being formed with a goal to address visitor crime and safety issues, which include everything from harassment to crimes of a more serious nature. A strategic plan has been designed to engage the public and private sector in a comprehensive, cooperative approach to the issue. In addition the plan hopes to expedite processing of tourist related incidences while providing an effective, immediate, appropriate reaction and follow up for crime victims and their families.

The eager young men and ladies involved in the program were pleased to be in the presence of a number of high-ranking officials from the Royal Bahamas Police Force including the Commissioner of Police Paul Farquharson, Deputy Commissioner John Rolle, Assistant Commissioner of Crime Reginald Ferguson, Assistant Commissioner for New Providence & Southern Bahamas Allan Gibson, Assistant Commissioner for Management Service Reuben Smith, Superintendent Robert Pinder, ASP Christopher Rahming, Inspector Alpheus Kemp.

In his address the Commissioner voiced his support and gratitude for the commitment displayed by the team of individuals who patrolled the streets & beaches daily for the betterment of the community. Director General of Tourism, Vernice Walkine and Charles Klonaris, Chairman of the Nassau Tourism and Development Board, echoed the Commissioners sentiments and congratulated the honored attendees for their enthusiasm and tenacity as they acknowledged the fact that the team had a challenging task ahead.

"These young men and ladies go out there every day with an eagerness that is refreshing" stated Charles Klonaris. "they deserve to be commended for their efforts, I am so pleased to be able to say thank you for a job well done".

Director General of Tourism, Vernice Walkine added, "This team of Community Police Officers have committed themselves to policing the tourism industry. They are under the able leadership of ASP Rahming, assisted by Inspector Kemp, and are therefore quite prepared for the tasks associated with keeping all tourist areas crime-free. I am very proud to be associated with such a team."
