With a successful 2008 outdoor Track and Field season completed, The Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations is now making the final preparations to kick of the 2009 season this Saturday at the Thomas Robinson Stadium.
On an annual basis, the National governing body gets the season started with the Odd Distance Track and Field meet which features events that are not synonymous with a normal competition.
Some of the events that will be contested at this weekend’s opener are the 300, 350, 500, and 600 meters. In the field events such as the long, triple, and high jumps along with the javelin throw, athletes would only be allowed a certain distance for an approach.
With this type of meet, coaches used this as a competitive time trial to see where their athletes are during the beginning of the season.
This year, the event will feature athletes from the under 9-age group to the open division. There is also a possibility that some of the masters and colligate athletes would also used the event as a time trial.
Athletes across the nation from Grand Bahama, Andros, Abaco, Exuma and Eleuthera may be in town this weekend for the opener. The event is schedule to get underway at 3:00pm as the deadline is today at 3:00pm.
Athletes and coaches can e-mail their entries to the Federation’s office at bahamastrack@hotmail.com or fax it over at 242-325-4433.
