Cycling Federation To Host Pineapple Fest Cycling Champs

The Bahamas Amateur Cycling Federation is all set and ready to host their Gregory Town Pineapple Festival Cycling Championship in Eleuthera with the five time champion expected to compete.

Barron "Turbo" Musgrove will head the field in the event which started six years ago. The cycling addition to the festival was the vision of veteran cyclist Sam "Iron-man" Brown and Musgrove who traveled to Eleuthera for an annual Triathlon several years back.

Under the organizational leadership of Jackie Gibson the event will take place on Saturday 6th June in Gregory Town Eleuthera covering 40 miles of rolling hills.

The event will cover four divisions which include the Open Men in the 40 mile race, Open Men and Women in the 20 mile race along with Masters 50 years and over and a junior division covering the 20 mile distance.

The race will start and finish in the front of Cambridge Villas, Gregory Town as the route moves south into Hatchet Bay, winning its way to the settlement of Rainbow Bay.

At this stage, the cyclist will take a U-turn heading back in the opposite direction along the same course they took from Cambridge Villas.

Once at Cambridge Villas, the cyclist will continue on heading north travelling over the glass window bridge ending back at the Villas towards the finish line.

The juniors will leave Cambridge Villas head north over the glass window bridge, travel onto the settlement of Bogue then return from Bogue pass the bridge ending at the Villas.

Special incentives are spot prizes; the first male and female to cross over, reach the glass window bridge will receive prizes. Entry fee is set at $10.00 and $5.00 for juniors.
