The College of The Bahamas Caribs men's volleyball team suffered another loss playing in the 2009-2010 New Providence Volleyball Association night league after winning their opening match of the season.
The Caribs suffered their first loss at the hands of the defending champions ScotiaBank Defenders and their latest loss came on the weekend at the D.W. Davis Gymnasium when they fell to the Technicians.
In the only match played on Friday night the Caribs lossed in three straight sets 25-13, 26-24 and 25-15 to a crafty veteran squad.
In the opening set which took 17 minutes to complete, the Caribs seemed to have control of the set in the early going but the experience of the Technicians came into play as they found their rhythm.
Keeping the pressure on the Caribs in the second set, the Technicians seemed to have started playing a different type of volleyball looking for the individual statistics which allowed the Caribs to score on their mistakes and make a serious run in the set.
However the Technicians were able to regroup to win the set and in the third set it was the Caribs who completely broke down and the set went to Technicians 22-10.
For the winning Technicians, Jamal Ferguson led with 11 points, seven spikes and eight digs while Adalbert Ingraham had six spikes and five digs on the night. On the losing end, Rayon Brooks also had 11 points, seven spikes and three blocks.
Caribs Head Coach Mark Humes said his team did not play at the high level that they are capable of doing.
"This is a fairly young team and right now they still have to get confident and comfortable playing against the more seasoned players in the league. What was witnessed on Friday night was the team still trying to figure things out and coming together as a unit," explained Humes.
With only the Lady Caribs Volleyball team being able to travel to the US for scrimmage games in the Florida Sun Athletic Conference, Humes said they had two scrimmage against local teams like the Defenders which played a big roll in them wining their opener.
"All of our players are students of COB with the setter fresh out of high school and only two players returning from last year, so we have to build that chemistry that is needed to defeat the top teams," said Humes.
Also on Friday, the Lady Techs was to have played the Johnson Lady Truckers, but that game was postponed and is to be re-scheduled. However on Friday league officials were not able to say when these two teams will play.
