When asked whether he would ask for his post back Dr. Nottage answered defensively that he would not.
"Will I ask for it back? No; I will not ask for it. No," said Dr. Nottage.
Dr. Nottage said that he always knew that regardless of the election’s results that he would continue to be active in the party and work with the leaders to help the PLP win the 2012 General Election.
"The reason why we have political parties is to win the government so that you can create opportunities for the people. Right now that is my focus," said Dr. Nottage.
The Bain and Grants Town MP resigned as the leader of Opposition business two weeks ago as part of his decision to challenge Mr. Christie for the leadership of the PLP.
Mr. Christie announced Dr. Nottage’s resignation in the House of Assembly and informed the House that he would now assume that responsibility.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Christie, Dr. Nottage stated that he thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to serve as leader of Opposition business and invited Mr. Christie to appoint someone else.
The PLP leader recently told the Journal that he would consult with the party’s new deputy leader, Philip ‘Brave’ Davis on the position, as Mr. Davis may prefer to take the position as leader of Opposition business himself.
Mr. Christie continued that he had no problem retaining the position until a decision was made on who would serve in that capacity.
