Mr. Christie, according to the results, is the most popular candidate for the leadership post of the country come 2012.
Those that participated in the poll on Bay Street on Monday were asked who they would vote for if general elections were called today.
The poll offered Mr. Christie, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham or none of the above as choices.
Out of 941 votes cast, Mr. Christie and the PLP received 430 votes or about 45.7 per cent of the total votes and Mr. Ingraham received 289 votes or about 30.7 per cent of the votes.
"Essentially at this point it means that Mr. Christie and the PLP are more popular than Mr. Ingraham and the Free National Movement," said Rodney Moncur, leader of the Workers Party.
"It also means that the work of Mr. Ingraham and the FNM is cut out for them. It is interesting to note that Mr. Christie has just been successful in being returned as leader of the PLP and the PLP of course has had a very successful convention. We have to now see what will happen when the FNM goes into convention and another poll is conducted."
An interesting part of the poll conducted showed that 222 voters were dissatisfied with both Mr. Christie and Mr. Ingraham’s leadership.
Mr. Moncur said now is the time for third parties to step forward and offer themselves as a better and viable alternative.
"It is the position of the Workers Party that the poll is a clear indication that the leadership of both the PLP and the FNM has a lot of work to do," he said.
"This gives small parties the great encouragement to know that there are grounds for a third, fourth or fifth political party and that is what we would encourage."
Essentially, he said the country needs to take a vote that will "break the back" of both the PLP and FNM.
The Workers Party is expected to hold another poll following the FNM’s convention, which is set to take center stage next week.
A breakdown of the figures showed that Mr. Christie was more popular among both males and females than Mr. Ingraham.
Mr. Christie garnered the majority of the female vote securing 47.8 per cent of the female vote while Prime Minister Ingraham received only 29.9 per cent of the female vote.
Male voters also voted in favor of Mr. Christie who secured 42.5 per cent of the male vote while Prime Minister Ingraham received just 32 per cent of votes.
