Edwin Bauld Jr. and Wilfred McPhee Jr. were convicted of killing 28-year-old Police Corporal Eddison Bain.
Bauld, who was represented by attorney Brian Hanna, is Bain’s cousin.
McPhee was represented by attorney, Mario Gray.
Bauld and Mcphee were charged with Bain’s murder back in October 2007.
Acting Justice Jethro Miller handed down the ruling following two days of sentencing hearings in the Supreme Court in Freeport.
Acting Justice Miller explained that his decision to hand down the death sentence was due to the "brutal and heinous" way that Bain was killed.
Police found Bain’s body in a shallow ditch near the Casuarina Bridge in Grand Bahama on October 22, 2007.
His hands and feet were tied and a 500-pound boulder was resting on his head.
According to court dockets, the pair also stole the officer’s 1999 Honda, his Commonwealth Bank ATM card and $4,510 in cash between October 20 and 22 of 2007.
The two death sentences are the first for the year.
Godfrey Sawyer was the last person to be sentenced to death on November 9, 2009 after being convicted of murdering Sterling Eugene.
Minister of National Security Tommy Turnquest advised the Governor General Arthur Hanna following the February 1, 2010 Meeting of the Advisory Committee on which Prerogative of Mercy, that the case of was not one in which the Prerogative of Mercy should be exercised, and that the law should take its course.
Sawyer’s appeal is pending before the Court of Appeal.
According to last reports there were at least 20 inmates who were sentenced to death at Her Majesty’s Prison.
There has not been a hanging in The Bahamas since David Mitchell was executed on January 6, 2000.
