For weeks there has been much speculation about how the four pieces of military grade sound equipment got in the posh, gated community.
Footage obtained by the Bahama Journal shows four military speakers being loaded on to a truck. An unmarked police car was also captured in that footage.
A Journal investigation found that the high-powered speakers are often used by the military.
The speakers are said to emit certain frequencies of irritating and annoying soundwaves that could possibly stretch over a wide range.
Further investigations revealed that if used properly, the speakers have the potential to cause structural damage and even death.
Many have questioned whether the equipment is in the country legally.
The Bahama Journal attempted to speak with Superintendent of Police, Leon Bethel, who is attached to the Central Detective Unit (CDU). However, up to press time, Mr. Bethel had not returned any calls.
Nygard Cay Property Manager, Eric Gibson, alleged that he experienced the effects of these high powered pieces of equipment.
"They would find the most annoying sounds like anything with a high string, or anything with a high pitch that they could play, and they would just play the sounds as loudly as they possibly could," Mr. Gibson alleged.
"I think the sounds are being directed at Peter Nygard [international fashion designer and Nygard Cay owner], who usually sleeps in his boat, which is just 10 feet away from where the speakers were erected."
Mr. Gibson claimed that the road leading to Nygard Cay, which goes directly through Mr. Bacon’s property, was shifted to the north.
This, he said, has created problems for Nygard patrons. He said water that typically flowed as a result of heavy rains, now flow right into the gateway at Nygard Cay.
Besides that, he said, the main concern has always been about the military like speakers.
"We’ve been making complaints about these speakers for quite some time now. My understanding is that the police force has confiscated the speakers. I think now they should make inquiries to . . . find out why they are here," he said.
Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade recently denied knowledge of the speakers.
However, he said investigations would still be carried out.
The police were asked about the speakers during a police press conference. The speakers were still erected at that time.
Shortly after that press conference, photos obtained by the Bahama Journal showed the speakers being taken down.
The Journal attempted to visit Mr. Bacon for comment. However, Lyford Cay Security blocked the property’s entrances.
It is also understood that some charges could be filed soon regarding this incident.
